Lydia Croesus AR Half-Stater or Siglos
NGC AU Ancient Silver Coin
This AR Half-Stater or Siglos was struck in the Kingdom of Lydia under Croesus, or by his successors, after c.561 BC, part of the bimetallic gold and silver standard Croesus introduced to replace Lydia's earlier electrum coinage, later adopted by the Achaemenid Persians as their own siglos after conquering Lydia in 546 BC. The obverse shows the confronted foreparts of a lion and bull, Lydia's royal emblem, with two incuse square punches on the reverse.
