Roman De Tirtoff, known as Erté, was a Russian-born French designer influential in set design, fashion, and graphic arts throughout the 20th century.

He created over 240 covers for Harper’s Bazaar from 1915 to 1937 and contributed to various other publications.

In recognition of his work, he was named Officer of Arts and Letters in 1976 and received the Médaille de Vermeil de la Ville de Paris in 1982.

His art is featured in collections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
