Antique Repousse Sterling Silver Hand Mirror
Ornate Floral Scroll Vanity Mirror 11.23 ozt
This English sterling silver vanity hand mirror is fully hallmarked in Birmingham, England. At the turn of the century, Birmingham was the leading center for silver dressing table wares. The mirror is richly decorated in repousse, a technique in which the silver is hammered from the reverse to raise the design in relief. Deep C scrolls, acanthus leaves, and flower clusters cover the handle and continue around the frame, which holds an oval beveled glass mirror. This heavily embossed style was a favorite on Edwardian dressing table sets. It brings lasting appeal to a vanity or a collection of antique English silver.
