1822 25C Capped Bust Quarter NGC PF63

RARE, DESIRABLE CAPPED BUST QUARTER PROOF!

Ron Guth writes in PCGS CoinFacts, “The 1822 Quarter Dollar in Proof is an extremely rare item of which only three confirmed examples are known: 1) the PCGS PR67 Eliasberg-Pogue example; 2) the PCGS PR65 Pittman example; and 3) an NGC PR63 example.” The present offering is the NGC PR63 specimen. Notably, the PCGS population report records six proof grading events.

The depth of mirrored reflectivity in the fields is extraordinary, and the viewer could spend hours transfixed by this stunning proof. Overall, the details on this example are unusually sharp, with complete hair definition on Liberty and crisp detailing on the eagle's feathers. The surfaces are generally untoned, with a few light hairlines consistent with the PF63 grade. Russet patina is observed on the date and around the rims, while light mint frost coats the devices.

Research suggests that this piece has not been offered at auction since the April 30, 2009, Cincinnati, Ohio (CSNS) Auction. Within the past few years, this specimen has been re-holdered in the NGC Green Label Holder.
