UNIQUE 1822 NEWCOMB-6 PROOF
This unique coin has a pedigree beyond compare. Ted Naftziger once owned this piece, and upon his envelope was a note that Large Cent luminaries Howard Newcomb and T. James Clarke both said this coin was a proof. The present coin is the sole example of the Newcomb-6 variety called proof by leading Large Cent specialist Denis Loring and certified by a leading grading service as a proof.
This piece is an extremely attractive light golden tan mixed with olive and splashes of iridescent rosy red, blue, and violet. The coin has a glistening presence and spectacular eye appeal—and the surfaces are much lighter in tone than seen on most proofs. A small cut that follows the jawline is noted as a pedigree marker.
