A MAJOR CONDITION RARITY!
This stunning piece is an important Condition Rarity, and is among the very Finest Known of 1801 Draped Bust dollars. In fact, it is the Finest Known for the BB-212 die marriage.
Please take a careful look at the images provided. You will see that both sides are fully Choice with mint luster tastefully decorated with rich original toning. When you tilt the coin, under a light, the luster will dreamily dance in your hand. At first glance, a warm copper-gray patina greets you. Keep looking, for as you tilt the coin again, iridescent brush strokes of reddish-apricot and sea-green outline most of the devices—and become more vivid at direct angles.
This coin is an absolute delight! The strike is bold-to-sharp, free of disturbing abrasions. As a pedigree marker, we report a few inconsequential carbon flecks. An exceptional—and essential—piece destined for a collection among the upper echelon of Draped Bust specialists.
Provenance: Ex: Hesselgesser Collection. Earlier from Heritage's sale of the Jack Lee III Collection, November 2005.
