Purchase this coin and you will own an important relic of both numismatic and American history. It is a great rarity that few collectors will ever possess. In 2016, an NGC VG10 specimen sold for $105,750.00. Today, the PCGS Price Guide values a VG10 at $225,000.
The silver dollar has always had a special place in the hearts of numismatists. The most important silver dollar ever produced—as well as one of the rarest—is the 1794 Flowing Hair dollar. Its production was made possible through the efforts of Mint Director David Rittenhouse. The early U.S. Mint relied on private deposits of silver and gold. However, there were no deposits of silver bullion on hand. Thus, in order to proceed with silver dollar production, on August 29, 1794, Rittenhouse personally deposited $2,001.34 worth of silver bullion.
242 of those coins were found to be unsatisfactory, which left a net mintage of 1,758 pieces of the first U.S. silver dollar. All of those coins were delivered to the Mint Director on October 15, 1794. This extraordinary history gives this coin its remarkable David Rittenhouse pedigree.
